For this creative and research-based project, students were challenged to explore the influence of media personnel by producing a digital art piece that paid tribute to individuals who have made a lasting impact on society through media. The focus was to examine the role of media not only as a source of entertainment but also as a powerful tool for shaping public opinion, driving social change, and reflecting cultural identity.

One student took a unique approach by choosing to center their project around two major branches of media: music and film. For the film component, the student selected La Haine (1995), a critically acclaimed French film directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. The film served as a powerful media outlet by highlighting issues of police brutality, racial inequality, and the struggles of marginalized youth in the suburbs of Paris. Through this choice, the student emphasized how film can act as both a mirror and a megaphone—bringing attention to real-world issues that are often overlooked or misunderstood.

To complement the film selection, the student created a dynamic digital art piece that celebrated the voices of music performers who have similarly used their platforms to challenge societal norms, express personal struggles, and connect with global audiences. The artwork included influential artists such as Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Mac Miller, Juice WRLD, Future, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Logic, Kanye West, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter, among others. Each artist was chosen for their lyrical storytelling, emotional depth, and cultural influence.

The digital piece was not only visually compelling but also thematically rich—combining elements of protest, vulnerability, resilience, and fame. By juxtaposing the raw realism of La Haine with the expressive power of modern music icons, the student highlighted the universal themes of struggle, identity, and expression across different forms of media. The project effectively demonstrated how both film and music continue to serve as critical outlets for societal commentary and personal storytelling, leaving a lasting impact on audiences around the world.
